How it works
- 01
Press the spacebar to start. The counter listens for the space key specifically, so other keys do nothing.
- 02
Holding the key down does not inflate your score. Operating system auto-repeat is filtered out, so only real presses count.
- 03
The page never scrolls on space while the test is focused.
Common questions
Why does holding the spacebar not count?
Holding a key makes the operating system fire repeated keydown events. Those are filtered out, so only genuine presses register.
What is a good spacebar speed?
Around 6 to 8 presses per second with one finger. Alternating index fingers on the bar goes higher.
Can my keyboard limit my score?
Yes. Membrane keyboards need a fuller press to actuate than mechanical ones, and a worn switch can miss or duplicate presses.
