Controller CPS Test
Measure controller button speed and check for stick drift.
Press any button on your controller
Browsers keep gamepads hidden until you interact with one, so nothing shows up until that first press.
How it works
- 01
Connect your controller and press any button to wake it. Browsers hide gamepads until you interact with one, so nothing appears until that first press.
- 02
Button mode counts presses per second, the same timed window as the click tests.
- 03
Drift mode reads both analogue sticks. Let go of them completely — a resting stick should read near zero on both axes. A reading that sits away from centre, or wanders on its own, is drift.
Common questions
What is stick drift?
The controller reporting stick movement when you are not touching it. The potentiometers inside wear down and stop reading true centre, so your character moves on its own.
My controller does not appear. What is wrong?
Press a button on it. Browsers deliberately hide connected gamepads until you interact, to prevent fingerprinting. If it still does not show, check the cable or re-pair over Bluetooth.
Can stick drift be fixed?
Sometimes. Contact cleaner in the stick mechanism can help, and recalibrating in the system settings compensates for small offsets. Badly worn sticks need replacing — some controllers now use hall-effect sticks that do not drift.
Which controllers work with this test?
Anything the browser exposes through the Gamepad API, which covers Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro and most generic USB pads.
