How it works

Click the surface slowly and deliberately — one press at a time, about once a second. Do not try to click fast; speed hides the fault.

Each press is timestamped and the gap to the previous press is recorded. A healthy switch produces gaps matching your actual clicking rhythm.

A gap under 70ms is the tell. Human fingers cannot physically press twice that quickly, so an interval that short means the switch bounced and sent a phantom click.

One flagged interval can be a fluke. Three or more across a run of slow clicks is a failing switch.
Common questions
What causes a mouse to double-click on its own?
Almost always a worn switch. The metal contact inside loses tension over millions of presses and bounces on contact, sending two signals where you pressed once. Dust and debris can cause the same effect.
Can I fix a double-clicking mouse?
Sometimes. Compressed air can clear debris. Some mice let you bend the switch contact back into tension, and replacing the switch outright is a reliable fix if you can solder. If it is under warranty, claim it.
Why does the test say 70 milliseconds?
It is the practical floor for a deliberate human double-press. Anything faster than that came from the hardware, not from you. The threshold is a tunable constant, not a law.
My mouse passed but still misbehaves in games. Why?
Intermittent faults do not always appear in a short test. Run it for longer, and also check for drag-related failures with the mouse test, which covers buttons, scroll and polling rate.
